Monday 6th May at 7.10pm for governance business and 8.00pm onwards for public forum.

The whole meeting is open to the public, with the second half of the meeting focusing on  community initiatives we are working on and specific projects. Join us if you can.

Little River Big Ideas

Evening Yoga Classes in Little River

Garden Weeds Escapee Workshop

 Sunday 19th May at 9:30am–12:30pm

 At Banks Peninsula Rugby Club Rooms, Awa Iti, Little River Domain

From old man’s beard to Mexican daisy, garden escapees are jumping the fence and posing a serious threat to biodiversity across Banks Peninsula.

Join Colin Meurk for a walk & talk on what makes a good weed in Aotearoa, how they spread and how to use tools to identify plants (good and bad!).

Anneliese Peekelharing, a Wairewa local, will share some key weedy issues at the revegetation planting at Okana Stream.

Hear from Valmai Becker at Phytofarm on ‘When Plants go wild from an herbal practitioner’s perspective’, Caris Montieth on the challenges of battling inherited garden escapees and Gilda Otway on establishing a weed-free edible garden.

Learn about responsible propagation, buying and selling of plants and how to control pesky plants with Niall Mugan from Keystone Ecology.

Morning tea provided and plenty of handy resources to take home. Bring along a weedy sample for identification.

Youth Development Funding

The Youth Development Fund provides grants for young people in the local community. This scheme considers a variety of activities including educational studies; cultural studies; representation at events; recreation development, and capacity building. 

For Banks Peninsula, successful applicants may receive up to $300 from the Community Board. You can find out more information and access the application here.

Board and Card Games

Wednesday 15th May 7-8.30pm

At Te Mata Hapuku Hall, Birdlings Flat

Games sessions in the evening. Come along and play Scrabble, Tri ominoes, Trivial Pursuit, Cluedo, Five Crowns, Five hundred or any games of your choice. Session runs for about 90 minutes or until the games are over. Contact Viv and Jan from Birdlings for any further info.

Every second Sunday of the month 10am-12pm.

Okuti Valley road before the Okuti Hall.

Free loan of traps for possums, stoats etc and free advice on where to set the traps for maximum success.

Wednesdays 9-3pm. Volunteers Wanted.

They are always in need of 1 litre pots only, and would appreciate any you can drop in to us. They do not use larger pots so please do not leave them. They do also use milk cartons if you have any of those.
